SHOW
S.H.O.W. stands for Students Helping Out Waterloo.
SHOW is a student-led organization at Gardner which works to improve both our school and our community, primarily through acts of service. SHOW hosts quarterly volunteer events, which any Gardner student and their family members are welcome to attend. These volunteer events will typically take place in the evening or on the weekends, so that families are more easily able to volunteer alongside their students AND get to know other members of the Gardner community in the process! Since we will be inviting families to join us for our volunteer events this year, not only will we not need to limit the number of students that can participate but sign ups will no longer be required to attend. Just show up if you can, and if not, we hope to see you at the next one! Most of our events are open-house style.
SHOW Senators
Our leadership team, known as SHOW Senators, meet monthly with their SHOW sponsor, to help come up with ideas for SHOW events and work to prepare for all kinds of activities through the school year. SHOW Senators help prepare for Red Ribbon Week, organize food collected for our annual food drive, sell candy canes during the holidays to raise money for local nonprofits, help organize for our rummage sale, and more! These student leaders are called upon often to provide feedback about Gardner life and brainstorm new ideas to help make student life at Gardner even better. Any student can apply to be a part of the SHOW Senate. When applications are open, it will be announced on the announcements, as well as posted in the Gardner Gazette.

Blanket Making for Project Linus
For SHOW's first quarter volunteer event, we will be hosting a blanket-making event for Project Linus! Project Linus is an organization that provides new, cozy blankets to local kids who are ill, have been hurt, or are in need. This event was made possible due to a generous grant, awarded to SHOW by the Illinois Education Association. Gardner students and their families are welcome to help make knot-blankets in the Gardner cafeteria on Tuesday, October 7th from 5:30 - 7:00 pm. Come for just a little while, or stay the whole time! All materials will be provided. Please note: This is intended to be an event for families to participate in as well, so please do not drop your student off and leave. We will provide light snacks and encourage you to stay and get to know other Gardner students and families while you and your learner give back to our local community. We hope to see you there! Reach out to Tamii Shufelt at tshufelt@wcusd5.net with any questions.
