Logo for a student show: 'Students Helping Out Waterloo SHOW at Gardner Elementary'.

S.H.O.W. stands for Students Helping Out Waterloo.

SHOW is a student-led organization at Gardner which works to improve both our school and our community, primarily through acts of service. SHOW hosts quarterly volunteer events, which any Gardner student and their family members are welcome to attend. These volunteer events will typically take place in the evening or on the weekends, so that families are more easily able to volunteer alongside their students AND get to know other members of the Gardner community in the process! Since we will be inviting families to join us for our volunteer events this year, not only will we not need to limit the number of students that can participate but sign ups will no longer be required to attend. Just show up if you can, and if not, we hope to see you at the next one! Most of our events are open-house style.

SHOW Senators

Our leadership team, known as SHOW Senators, meet monthly with their SHOW sponsor, to help come up with ideas for SHOW events and work to prepare for all kinds of activities through the school year. SHOW Senators help prepare for Red Ribbon Week, organize food collected for our annual food drive, sell candy canes during the holidays to raise money for local nonprofits, help organize for our rummage sale, and more! These student leaders are called upon often to provide feedback about Gardner life and brainstorm new ideas to help make student life at Gardner even better. Any student can apply to be a part of the SHOW Senate. When applications are open, it will be announced on the announcements, as well as posted in the Gardner Gazette.

April's Rescue Readers

Join S.H.O.W. for April's Rescue Readers event at Helping Strays, where we will visit with and read to their current shelter pets! They also typically have a small craft table, and we always encourage a donation if you are able. (More info on donations can be found at helpingstrays.org under the "Give" menu.) Helping Strays of Monroe County is located at 4221 Hanover Rd. Columbia, IL and the next Rescue Readers event is Thursday, April 16th, from 4 - 5 pm. Books are available on site, but you are welcome to bring your own if you'd like as well. Per Rescue Readers general rules, adults must remain onsite with the children they are bringing to the event. If you plan to join us, please complete the Google Form by Friday, April 10th, so that they can staff accordingly. Thank you!
